VICTOR WAINWRIGHT and
WILDROOTS

Victor Wainwright, the twenty something singer, pianist, “hepcat” from Memphis by way of the Savannah, Georgia; creates powerhouse blues and roots rock by playing his own unique style of boogie piana’. He effortlessly pays frequent homage to past music greats, while simultaneously adding his own youthful excitement. He's a raucous high-octane dynamic performer and crowd pleaser with soul to spare. After earning what he calls a "double major in Boogie, a Ph.D. in Swing and a master's in Rhythm," the "Piana' from Savannah" is undoubtedly making a name for himself in a big way.

Stephen Dees is a rock n' roll aficionado, touring and-or recording as bassist and vocalist for Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren, Pat Travers, and Foghat to name a few. He was a Billboard and MTV char-tee with his band Novo Combo, and has received great acclaim for his original pop band "
Bandees." Currently, Dees is the producer, writer, bassist and backup vocalist for the WildRoots.

The boogie blues "piana" player and savvy pop-rocker met up six years ago in Ormond Beach FL, where they were both on the bill of a benefit concert. Very impressed after hearing each other perform and finding that they had a common love for early rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll music that came out of the '50s and 60's, such as B.B. King, Ray Charles, James Brown, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard; they discussed the possibility of collaborating on an original recording project; paying homage to their rock 'n' rhythm roots. Dees agreed to produce and co-write what would become Wainwright's 2005 release, "Piana from Savannah". "...it's hard to follow the speed limit while this one's playing... Pine Top Perkins would be proud." [Backstage Pass Magazine]

For the project, blues-rock guitarist Greg Gumpel, a friend and band mate of Victor's since 2002, was a perfect fit for the band. Now also a Memphis resident, Gumpel has become renowned for his wild phrasing and fluid fusion of electric blues and genuine rock 'n roll guitar. Greg says, "When I play blues, I like to think a little outside the box, get a little wild, while still trying to pay tribute to the founding fathers of blues guitar."

Drummer Brian Kelly, an accomplished jazz / new age composer, roots rhythm powerhouse and the backbone of band. Having worked with Dees in the recent past, the two had met playing in a progressive rock band and from the very first note; knew there was an instant rhythm connection. "Brian is refined, intricate and explosive all at the same time.”

After the release of the “Piana’ from Savannah” CD and some outstanding live performances they knew they had something special and decided to forge a more enduring working relationship. Victor Wainwright and the WildRoots were born.

Their debut CD, "Beale Street to the Bayou," is set to release in September 2009. The music is a departure from the more traditional blues and boogie of Wainwright's "Piana" CD. This project lyrically and musically speaks to a broader contemporary audience, while its soul remains anchored in the roots music that continues to inspire.

DELTA HIGHWAY

There are many different opinions as to what the future of blues harmonica will be. Memphis based Brandon Santini is undeniably a worthy player to keep an eye on as the next decade unfolds. His name is worthy of conversations that involve Jason Ricci, Billy Gibson, Dennis Gruenling, Rick Estrin and other frontline harmonica players with tasteful speed he combines with his respect to tradition. It's traditional blues with a present color. Raised in North Carolina, Brandon relocated to Memphis where he began to absorb the sounds and culture of the Delta, honing his craft night after night, sweating it out in local Beale Street clubs just like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, & B.B. King and turning it into what it is today. For the last six years, as frontman for Delta Highway he has toured relentlessly throughout North America and four foreign countries bringing his distinct voice and playing style to music lovers everywhere.

Coming off a big year in 2009, a year where Brandon Santini was nominated for a Blues Music Award for "Best New Artist Debut," joined forces with BLUZAPALOOZA for two incredible shows in Cairo, Egypt and toured relentlessly across the country, now Brandon brings in new and familiar faces to his exciting new project "Brandon Santini & Delta Highway." Elliot Sowell (Guitar) hails from Texas originally and has resided in St. Louis, MO for the past several years and spent time handling guitar duties with The Rockin' Jake Band. Tom "Slim" Louis (Bass) will be returning to the band after nearly a year and a half absence. He also recently toured with The Rockin' Jake Band and was also a member of Jason Ricci & New Blood. Rounding out the new lineup is Derek Bonn (Drums) a St. Louis resident and a member of Los Carnales and has backed other artists such as Arthur Williams, Nick Curran, and Kirk Fletcher. The players may be different but the sound is still the same on the Delta Highway!

PEGGY RATUSZ and
DADDY LONG LEGS

Peggy Ratusz & Daddy Longlegs features our main spider man, Duane "Daddy LongLeg" Simpson (6'6") on guitar. His prowes for Blues, Jazz, Jam and Contemporary is felt from the stage forward. He's a beloved, sharing and gracious instrumentalist. Jake Wolf (Cabo Verde, Hip Bones, Kellin Watson, Tyler Ramsey) graces the stage on 5 and 6 string Bass. The combination of his Funky, Soul, Latin Jazz jam influences are evident. Thumpin Rob Geisler (Lauren Jones & the Velvetones, Stephanie's id) plays as a spirder man at times too, while Mug and the Knocker's and Levi Douglas's bassist, Sir Lancelot McGough can be seen with his 4 string bass ax playing along with us too. Drummer extraordinnaire, "All Day" Joey K is the slick new drummer from L.A. He came to play the BLUEZ BABY! He holds the reigns, and we wouldn't want it any other way with the amount of jamming we do. Jim "Awesome" Arendell, another of Lauren Jones's Velvetones as well as drummer for Kellin Watson's band, helps me out from time to time on the skins. Joshua "Harp Throb" Singleton, on harmonica, brings new meaning to the mouth organ and he comes out to play with us too sometimes. I've been hangin' out in clubs, festivals, benefits and private parties for longer then I care to admit. A bunch of people, from music reviewers to the bride's cousin's brother-in-law, have complimented me for having a great set of pipes. It does my heart and self esteem real real good to hear them say such nice things.

GOOSE CREEK SYMPHONY

Goose Creek Symphony is considered by many to be one of the most original bands of their time. Major record labels (Capitol & Columbia) of the 60s/early 70s didn’t know what to do with a band that played a mixture of rock and roll, folk, jazz and country with an undeniable hillbilly influence, a hippie attitude and a reckless sense of instrumental daring. They used horns and fiddles as well as effects and blended it with psychedelic rock and roll. The true definition of "Cosmic American Music".

In the 70s they fit into a country rock mode, but they were more esoteric and versatile than many of their contemporaries and had more grit and a rugged, less commercial sound. They were/are a good time band that love to jam and stretch out regardless of the genre. They recorded three eclectic albums for Capitol, Est 1970, (1970) Welcome to Goose Creek (1971) and Words of Earnest (1972). All were moderately successful with the last boasting a hit single cover of Janis Joplin’s “Mercedes Benz”. In 1974 the band moved over to Columbia and recorded Do Your Thing But Don’t Touch Mine, which was their weakest to date thanks to an outside, unwanted producer. Shortly thereafter the band took a hiatus…. a really long one which lasted almost 17 years. Then out of nowhere they came back (and musically it sounds like they never went away), and lo and behold they sound almost contemporary.

The Goose Creek story brings new meaning to “you were ahead of your time.” Unlike many of the other bands from the 70s Goose Creek hasn’t mellowed or gotten more commercial. They aren’t resting on old laurels, if anything they’ve gotten looser and more varied. They found most of their old audience as well as many new fans. In the decade since they resurfaced they’ve played many festivals and released a slew of albums including, the superb live set The Goose Is Loose in 1995, which highlights their extended jamming. They’ve done the Acoustic Goose, as well as excellent studio albums, such as Going Home (1998) and I Don’t Know (2003). They’ve also released a couple of lost albums, such as Head For the Hills (recorded in 1978) and recently The Same Thing Again (one music CD and a bonus DVD). The latter was recorded in the mid-70s and essentially forgotten about for three decades. Ironically the title cut has Gearheart singing “If I could live my life over I’d do the same thing again, for 20 long years I’ve picked and I’ve sung.” Well, the band has gotten a new lease of life and while one could say they are doing the same thing again, it’s only in the term that they are playing great music that’s outside the norm and remarkably refreshing, and more than that they simply exude good vibes.

The band still keeps an active touring schedule and enjoys a loyal fanbase similar to what the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett have experienced over the years.

ROSIE LEDET and
THE ZYDECO PLAYBOYS

Rosie Ledet & The Zydeco Playboys have quickly become the act to watch on the zydeco circuit. Brimming with coy sensuality, Rosie’s music is fresh and daring
while still retaining its links to its bayou Creole heritage. Rosie has a rare combination of talent, not only in the zydeco world, but in any musical genre. She can write top-notch award winning songs, hang with the best of them on her instrument, and can sing circles around her peers. Rosie is among the few zydeco artists who still sing and write some of their own material in Creole French.
Today’s premier female artist is Rosie Ledet, whose soulful voice kicks her male counterparts right out of the club."
—WALL STREET JOURNAL

"If the Allman Brothers went zydeco they would probably sound like Rosie Ledet." – NEW YORK TIMES

“Ledet is also blessed with one of zydeco’s most distinctive voices. Her husky, soulful tones keep the melodies in your head long after the dance floor has been cleared for the night.” – WORCESTER MAGAZINE

ANGELA EASTERLING and
THE BEGUILERS

Angela was raised in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Much of her childhood was spent on the farm that has been in her family since 1791, seven generations. Ironically, it wasn't until she moved to Los Angeles, that the homespun musical calling in her soul became a siren's song. A performer all her life, Angela had begun playing guitar and writing songs while studying at Emerson College in Boston. Angela embraced her heritage in a big way as a writer and an artist on her debut album, "Earning Her Wings", chosen as "Americana Pick of the Year" by Smart Choice Music. She returned to tour the East Coast, having appeared on the bill with such artists as Lucinda Williams, Deana Carter, Dave Alvin, Victoria Williams and Michelle Shocked out west. She opened for the legendary Ray Price (at the Birchmere), Suzy Bogguss and others. Angela's music was featured in commercials (Southwestern Bell) and several of her songs were used in the series "Horsepower" on Animal Planet.

Angela released her second album, “BlackTop Road”, produced by Will Kimbrough in July ’09.The album was in the top 5 for adds to the Americana radio charts for several weeks and debuted on the Americana top 40 chart in September, remaining there for 7 weeks. It has been highly praised in the press and was chosen as a top pick in both Oxford American and Country Weekly. The title song tells of her family's struggle to hold onto their farmland in the face of widespread development and represents a bold new step in her singing and songwriting. Angela was selected for an official Americana Convention Showcase and also named a 2009 Kerrville Hill New Folk Finalist. The Boston Herald named her song “The Picture”  “Best Political Country Song” in their 2009 Year’s best music picks and WNCW listeners chose “BlackTop Road” as one of the top 100 CD’s of 2009 as well as one of the top 20 by regional artists.  Roger McGuinn, founder of the Byrds, called her "a bright shining star on the horizon!" and went on to say, "Her gift is so special. Her CD BlackTop Road brought me back to the time the Byrds recorded "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" - tradition meets youthful exuberance."

THE LEIGH GLASS BAND

Even Southern Gothics Get the Blues Asheville-based blues troubadour Leigh Glass put the first lineup of her band together in 2003, but her own musical history goes back much farther. "I took piano lessons when I was little...but it didn't stick," she laughs. With deep roots in Western North Carolina -- her family is from Bethel (Cold Mountain) in Haywood County -- she proudly notes her musical pedigree. Leigh's original songs are built upon an electric blues musical foundation, with healthy ladles of country (and country-blues) influences added. A list of her musical heroes covers a wide spectrum of American artists and genres: Ann Wilson (rock), Gillian Welch (Americana), Tina Turner (blues and soul), Emmylou Harris (country) and Leontyne Price (opera). Leigh's style distills all of these and more into the blues idiom, but her lyrics are always prominent in the mix. Leigh offers, "My songs are all stories that run the gamut of emotions and characters." Though it wasn't planned this way, Leigh observes that "seven of the new tunes are about men -- or told from the viewpoint of male characters! And," as Leigh notes, "I'm a female." Yet these are not your standard love-gone-wrong tunes; the lyrics chart more of a Southern Gothic path. Audiences follow her lyrics closely, and onstage Leigh delivers them with gusto Press reviews have quoted, "Leigh has a husky voice of an early Cher, and a Nancy Sinatra attitude." The Mountain Xpress describes Leigh as “a heartbroken troubadour, using her acid-etched voice to weave tales of loss, lament and love.” (Kelley Corwin) "Leigh has an Elvis thing goin' on when she sings."....... "Distinctive and powerful vocals deliver haunting, provocative lyrics amidst a landscape of soul-stirring, ass-shaking grooves." -Michael Farr........ "Fronted by bluesy songstress Glass...reminiscent of serious alt. country artists like Gillian Welch and The Jayhawks with a lot of jazz thrown in." -Music Chick ..."Distinctive and powerful vocals deliver haunting, provocative lyrics amidst a landscape of soul-stirring, ass-shaking grooves."-Michael Farr.

THE NEW RELICS

Somewhere the between the coal mines and steel mills, mountain streams and majestic rivers, where blue-collar meets corporate America, The New Relics have taken life around them and create what has been called “the perfect driving music”.  The band blends the sounds of country, rock and americana and created the sound of modern american music. Their latest album “Monongalia” is more than a collection of songs, it is the essence, the soul, and the sound of The New Relics. Having spent years on the road, the band has found who they are and where they belong musically and personally. Big Cities and Fastlanes just don’t seem to sit with The New Relics, they are more about small towns and  local watering holes. “Monongalia” tells a story about the people that surround the band, the towns they live in and the choices that they make everyday.
Influenced by the sounds of Pat Green, Jack Ingram, John Mellencamp,  and Keith Urban, The New Relics deliver a sound that is more than country music. Its a journey about great songs. Music that makes you smile, laugh, reflect and believe in something more than yourself. Country music is more than hats and boots. Its taking care of your family, living life, good times and bad, and living to the fullest. Country, Rock, Americana, Bluegrass have all been used to describe the band. All are valid comparisons but not one can describe the band.
The music is radio friendly, with plenty of great melodies and choruses. Music that will make you drive all night, watch the morning sunrise and kiss your lover.
With good years of touring under their belt, meeting more friends and fans, The New Relics are just beginning. Yet for every journey that they take out of Monongalia, they always come home to the people that they love.

WOLF CREEK

Our music is an eclectic blend of Bluegrass, Classic Country, Blues and Rock-n-Roll. Formed in November of 2007, Wolf Creek is the creative collaboration of five seasoned entertainers immersed in the craft of traditional & eclectic mountain music . Each of these musicians bring to this group a rich background performing music in a variety of acts. The core influence of this band is Bluegrass, with a good mixture of Classic Country & Americana. Among the elements that make up our sound is the music of Flatt & Scruggs, The Country Gentlemen, Seldom Scene, Doc Watson, Jimmy Martin, The Stanley Brothers, Tony Rice, Carl Jackson, & Ricky Skaggs. While strongly acoustic based, the music of Wolf Creek is augmented with the punch and power of drums and electric bass, along with the twang of the Telecaster, flavoring the music with the classic West Coast sounds of Buck Owens and the Outlaw Country ala Waylon Jennings. Combining these elements with the many other styles each of these players bring to the group, Wolf Creek is creating a sound which is unique and fresh yet classic and timeless. Wolf Creek, the band's name, was derived from the song of the same name by Dan Fogelberg, which was performed by some of the bands biggest influences including: Doc Watson, Herb Pedersen, David Grisman & Jerry Douglas.

She may be a young girl, only 12-years-old but she has a passion….a passion for country music that she loves to share with others.  She wants to make a name for herself in the music world. With her dedication and work ethic there is no doubt that CiCi Jansen will make it anywhere she wants to go with her career. She says, “I’m CiCi Jansen and I just sing the style that is mine and not like anyone else's.” CiCi made a great decision when she was just a small child, "I just want to sing”. And that is exactly what she does with every bit of her heart. A voice that can move you to tears and pierce directly into your soul……that’s CiCi Jansen.

CANE CREEK

The Cane Creek band was formed two and a half years ago around two of Western North Carolina's "child prodigies" if you will.

Seth Taylor from Bryson City is 16 years old and has won practically every major banjo and guitar competition in the South East. He is the 2008 Merlfest guitar winner, 2009 Merlefest banjo winner and 2009 Galax, VA guitar winner as well, just to name a few. He travels throughout the year with Pine Mountain Railroad as well playing festivals and other bluegrass venues.

Danielle Bishop is 15 years old and has sown the same seeds as well in the contest circuit. At 11 years old she won the coveted "Fiddler of the Festival" competition at the Fiddlers Grove Festival in Union Grove, NC. At the time she was the youngest in history to have accomplished this. In 2009 she won second place at Galax VA in the adult fiddle competition and second place back at Fiddlers Grove as well. She also is emerging as a great vocalist in the group.

Buddy Melton has certainly made his mark in the bluegrass world in the last several years playing in many various projects including his own solo self titled CD. He currently plays full time with Balsam Range and has been a huge influence with our band over the past year and a half playing upright bass and lead singer with his stunning vocals.

Danny Bishop owns and operates Bishop Violin Shop in Fairview, NC and is the proud father of Danielle. He plays mandolin for the group. It's been an awesome opportunity for him to be able to share the gift of music with his daughter.

THE SCOTT DAVIS BAND

Several years ago Scott Davis auditioned for the spot of lead singer in a band called Showdown. Scott joined the group and they changed their name to The Studebaker Hawk Band. They developed a strong musical and personal relationship and within a couple of months, they were opening for Lee Greenwood and, most recently, for Tracy Lawrence. They were also the opening act for rising country star, Mitch Glenn. The Studebaker Hawk Band gained a loyal following of fans and remained together for two years before disbanding for a while. Scott and former Studebaker Hawk member, Matt Mosteller joined with Shawn Fahey, Scott Buchannan and John Setterlind to form The Scott Davis Band. They have since gone on to perform at regional events such as the Historic Morganton Festival, the Hildebran Heritage Festival, headlining many weekly street festivals, and most recently opened for Nashville recording artist, Eric Church at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, NC.
